Wickham Morris have 2 main aims - to enjoy ourselves and keep the old English tradition of Morris dancing alive.
We do collect for the side at the various pubs and other venues where we dance. We "pass the hat around" in order to defray the costs of running a Morris side. Any extra money we have after expenses, at the end of our season (September each year) is donated to a charity chosen by our members at the AGM.
In addition, we regularly support various local Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Guides, and schools, by putting on displays or teaching children. In fact, it is one of the features of Wickham Morris that, if any children come and watch us and want to give it a try, then we try and get them up dancing - and a child in our definition is anyone aged between 7 and 97, though we might extend this if a special case is made!
In the 2025 season, we supported the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Operation Airbase appeal to move the Air Ambulance base of operations from Thruxton to Southampton (Eastleigh Airport), putting them in the heart of the region for the essential work they carry out.
Since 1985 we have donated over £45,000. The table below shows all the donations we have made to date.
